Wind and weather

In Safaga the wind and sea conditions vary depending on the time of the day and the season.

Usually in the morning, from October until December, the wind blows from the land in a slanting direction reaching a strength of 5/6 Beaufort and creating a good type of wave in the open sea while in the afternoon, caused by the thermic effect created by the desert, the wind slacks his intensity.

The average water temperature is always between the 20/28° C.

On the contrary, from January to April, in the morning the wind is transverse and reaches an average intensity of 2/3 Beaufort while in the afternoon it reaches a remarkable intensity. In any case, generally from October to April the most used sail for windsurfing in the morning or in the afternoon is 5,0/5,5 and the most used kite for Kite-surf is the 10mt. It has to be emphasized that the inner part of the Safaga Bay, being sheltered from the open sea, preserves mainly flat sea conditions while, further offshore, large waves can occur. Furthermore, the almost stationary high pressure situation above North Africa creates thermic wind conditions throughout the whole year. In fact, thanks to a statistical estimate of the wind conditions during the period of one year, is it possible to state that approximately 70% of the days have wind conditions of an average that range between 4 and 7 Beaufort.
